Jenny Whiston
Process and Audit Team

When I finished my degree earlier this year I wanted to build a career in business management.  I heard about DRL’s graduate opportunities whilst browsing for job vacancies and I could instantly see myself working for the company. I sent through my details, and shortly afterwards I had arranged
to meet a few of the Directors. I could see that they were very proud of their company - definitely something I wanted to be part of; it got me fired up for getting stuck in straight away. There was no hanging around the phone waiting for it to ring, they were quick to interview me and before I knew
it I was starting my new job!
I was initially a little overwhelmed by the volume of information there was to take in having been
a media student for three years, but a genuine interest in all-things-internet and a fantastic team of sharp, helpful colleagues is making the transition from media student to online business analyst quick, exciting and relatively painless. I am really impressed by the friendliness of the team, the relaxed, happy working environment and in particular by the ‘work hard, play hard’ ethic.
There is a real sense of teamwork across the business and a lot of interaction between
departments. Nothing stands still for long and so change is a constant process; everyone is very
forward-thinking and if there is a better way of doing something, we will put it into action. The
best things about my job are that the work is challenging, enjoyable and varied. I’ve worked
here for nearly a month now and I’ve been made to feel at home from day one. Everyone is friendly,
eager to help me progress and nobody will ever say ‘no’ if I want to pick their brains.

Product and Marketing Assistant

I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire in summer 2004 with a Bsc in
Marketing with Spanish. After travelling and working abroad I decided to start my career so I joined an agency and I was put forward for a position at DRL. It really sounded like the kind of place I wanted to work, the staff all seemed really happy and everyone I spoke to only had good things to say.
I started work at DRL in May 2007 in the position of Product and Marketing Assistant and I haven’t looked back.
Since starting at DRL I have been involved in many exciting projects and assignments that have kept me constantly challenged! There is a great support network and there is always someone available to help.
The marketing team is a great one; we all work closely together to achieve deadlines and targets.  My main duties included working alongside the web team to put together exciting promotional pages and to work towards continually improving our websites

Matthew Lawson
Product & Marketing Assistant

I completed a 4 year sandwich degree at the University of Central Lancashire. I studied Bsc.  Business Information Technology and in July 06 I gained a 2:1. As part of my degree I did a one year work placement in Marketing. The experience gave me the chance to see if Marketing was for me. I joined DRL in September 06, as a Marketing and Product Assistant and I believe it was my experience from my placement that was influential in me getting the job. My role is quite diverse, which makes it interesting; it varies from in depth analysis of the market to selecting products to put in catalogues.
What attracted me to DRL was the fast paced environment and the company’s focus on being innovative in the white goods industry. DRL is the place to get involved if you want to get stuck into some exciting work, your opinion is always valued and it’s the place where every idea is a good idea.

Luke Scowcroft
Marketing Assistant

I have recently started a year’s placement at DRL Limited (July 2007, 2 months ago) as a Marketing Assistant which will contribute to a Business Studies degree at the University of Huddersfield. As an introduction to the business I spent two weeks shadowing and working with different employees in each of the departments of DRL Limited. This gave me an excellent understanding of the business which has been of vast importance for projects which I have been undertaking within the Marketing team. From the responsibilities which I was given at an early stage I was quickly able to use and develop my skills which I believe will give me invaluable experience, for both my further studies and more importantly my future career plans.
