Robbins moves to new role at Tesco

Tesco has moved UK chief operating officer Bob Robbins to a new role in the business.

The news comes just weeks after it was reported that Robbins had controversially sold shares in the supermarket ahead of its recent profits

Robbins, who became COO in March 2011, has been appointed to a new strategic role within the UK business, reporting directly to CEO Philip Clarke.

Tesco has insisted that the move has nothing to do with the share sale and is not a demotion.

Robbins will be replaced by Chris Bush who has been in charge of Tesco's Thai business.  Bush said: "I am very excited to be returning to the UK to support the team with our plans to invest in the UK business for customers and staff."

UK chief executive Richard Brasher added: "Last month we set out our determination to invest in the UK business. These changes give the UK board the combined strength of a very experienced leader of change and a talented country CEO who has done an extraordinary job in Thailand."
