NCR will also demonstrate its new digital media solution for in-store advertising which delivers greater management control at a lower cost of operation than traditional products than competing solutions on the market. It uses relatively low cost digital media player which attach to each screen and is a significant advancement on competing "point" solutions which require a PC to host the playlist for each group of screens. Ambient in-store advertising can increase revenues and profits by boosting sales of impulse categories, encouraging brand switching and promoting new or seasonal products and price reduction events. Assisted point of sale solutions are also a key part of NCR's offering. Research by analyst group IHL shows that for every second a retailer can shave off a transaction, they can add 0,000 to the bottom line. In pursuit of this, NCR is launching a new, speedier barcode scanner and contactless payments terminal which complement its existing highly ergonomic point-of-sale operator interface and fast two-sided thermal printers.
