GameStop closes stores in Northern Ireland

GameStop, the computer games retailer, has shut all four of its branches in Northern Ireland. The retailer's Belfast, Bangor, Newry and Londonderry stores closed last Sunday.

In a statement Gamestop said that all customer credits will be honoured through its website or in stores in the Irish Republic.

The company said the closures were part of a plan announced six months ago to exit the UK market from a bricks and mortar perspective and to focus on expanding the retailer's digital offerings in the UK.

Michael Finucane, GameStop's group commercial director, said: "We have experienced tremendous sales growth on our UK ecommerce site. Our go forward plan is to serve the UK market with enhanced digital and online offerings."
